Bucket List
After seeing the movie “Bucket List,” have you ever thought of creating one for yourself? I think it would be pretty entertaining to hear the types of things that people would want to do as time comes to a close on their earthly lives.
After some time of feeling like I was an empty shell without a spark, I have found that I enjoy many things! So a bucket list for me may include some wild and crazy things.
1. Drive a Go Cart - had to hide the white cane on that one. Thanks Christine! (May 2011)
2. Find a sport I enjoy – Rowing – (April 2008)
3. Complete a ropes course - knowing good and well I have a huge fear of falling! (August 2010)
4. Ride a Hot Air Balloon
5. Sky Diving
6. Complete a Head Race (5,000 meters of rowing)
7. Go driving in a REAL car - Any volunteers?
8. Experience a real kiss with the man I love.
9. Complete a 450 mile bike tour across Iowa – tentative July 2012
10. ……
So as the list expands and probably goes to the extreme, I began to think. Now that should be on the bucket list in and of itself! The major premise of the movie was that you create a list of things you want to do before you die. Nothing wrong with that. But what if God created a bucket list for each of us that we became obedient in accepting? Just to daydream a bit, what would that be? There’s been a few things that have been laid on my heart because they are the things that I have been avoiding for some time.
1. Willingly give up my life, desires, and dreams and ASK that He replace my old life with a new one, create even purer desires, and excite new dreams. (Luke 9:23-24)
2. Openly share who God is with people I meet while doing it with kindness and respect. (1 Peter 3:15)
3. Take on an area of sin I’ve struggled with for a number of years. This requires totally relying on Him to change my habits. (Ephesians 4:20-24)
4. Go out and serve!
5. Ask him to plan my days. (Proverbs 16:9)
This is only touching the surface of what God may ask of me. But while my own bucket list is bound by time, God’s bucket list is external and has the potential to provide an even greater rush than any sky-diving excursion could ever offer.
Though, I do secretly, or more so openly, hope that God’s will contains marriage for me! The primary thought is that while my bucket list ultimately leads to an ending of one life, God’s bucket list enhances another.
